Sports therapy is the term applied to the application of various techniques to assist athletes and non sporting individuals alike.

Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to be a sports person/athlete to benefit from sports therapy. Sports therapy can help a variety of complaints such as Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) and Fibromyalgia as it covers the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues of the body e.g. muscles, ligaments and tendons.

Regardless of whether you exercise or play sport to keep fit, or compete from club to international level, then sports therapy may have something to offer you.

Under current law anyone is able to call themselves a sports therapy practitioner or sports therapist. It is important that any person you use is a member of the Society of Sports Therapists (SST) or the Sports Therapists Organisation (STO) as their qualifications will have been verified and assessed. They will have letters MSST or MSTO after their name and will be able to show you a current membership certificate and photo ID card and will be properly insured for the work they do.

As a member of both the STT and STO, Usha is able to identify anyone for whom sports therapy would be ill-advised or detrimental to their short or long-term, well being. Usha will assess each individual and provide the appropriate massage techniques, and advise on alternative action if required.

After consultation and with your consent, your treatment may comprise of some or all of these methods/techniques with the aim of developing a thorough treatment plan:

All these methods/techniques are non-invasive and the degree of effort and amount of pressure is always controlled and regulated to stay within the pain tolerance of the patient.
